Apolin wins UP! Awards 2024
It all started with a memory. With a classic lamp from the 1950s, known as the "dog" — designed by Apolinary Gałecki. Its distinctive silhouette, full of grace and balanced proportions, became the inspiration to create something completely new. This is how Apolin was born — a contemporary interpretation of that icon.
In December 2024, Apolin was honoured at the UP! Awards, a nationwide competition organised by the editors of Wprost magazine, which recognises fresh, high-quality and bold projects on the Polish design scene. This is a unique distinction for us — not only because we are among the winners, but above all because this award says: yes, it is possible to combine the past with modernity and do so with respect for form.
About Apolin
Apolin is a lamp made entirely of metal — raw and subtle at the same time. It was designed by the wonderful Marta and Dawid from Grynasz Studio, known for their consistent approach to materials, geometry and detail. Here, everything matters: proportions, light, rhythm of form. Apolin is not just a functional object. It is a sculpture.
Although its form is strong and decisive, the light it gives off is full of tranquillity. It is precisely this play of contrasts — between strength and subtlety — that makes Apolin impossible to overlook.
What are the UP! Awards?
The UP! Awards recognise brands that are “on the up” — in terms of quality, courage and influence. It is a competition that looks at young companies, designers and initiatives that are setting new directions and redefining the Polish market for design, architecture, visual culture and fashion.
It is not enough for something to look good. It must make sense. It must have character. Apolin — with its symbolic history and contemporary language — fits perfectly into this context.
