Geometric lamps, shapes and patterns in interiors

Geometric lamps, furniture, accessories - the magic of geometry in interiors

Geometric patterns and shapes in interiors is a timeless and quite universal motif. Triangles, squares, stripes, circles, and all sorts of polygons have long sparked the imagination of users of stylish interiors, enlivening them and infusing them with a policy of "zero boredom.". What role do geometric motifs play in interiors, when did they appear in interiors, to what interior styles they fit best and how to introduce geometry into apartments with lamps? The answers to all of these questions can be found below, so please feel free to come along!

Wondering if it's worth introducing geometric shapes or patterns into your interior? You are afraid of what the effect of such treatment will be? Keep in mind that geometric shapes:

  • they add temperament and dynamism to interiors, enliven, interest and attract the eye,
  • are a good opportunity to introduce contrasts, vivid or new colors into the interior,
  • introduced in moderation work well in interiors of almost any style,
  • properly arranged, optically enlarge the space,

With geometry in interiors, it's like with almost everything. It is important to exercise moderation and opt for one strong accent or a few geometric elements that do not completely dominate the room.

Furniture, accessories, fabrics and lamps with geometric shapes. How to introduce geometry into interiors?

You can introduce geometric shapes into your home in many ways. As we mentioned above, it is important to exercise restraint and choose one, top two options from the list below. Introduce geometry to your interiors with:

  1. furniture with geometric shapes, such as round or square coffee tables,
  2. lamps, such as round plafonds, lamps with spherical shades, and fixtures with geometric - cubic or cuboidal shapes,
  3. fabrics, curtains, wallpaper, pillows, blankets, bedding, etc. in geometric patterns,
  4. supplements such as placemats, photo frames, candle holders, vases with geometric shapes or patterns,
  5. floor tiles or tile in geometric patterns or those that can be arranged in hexagons or checkerboard,

Geometric lamps and patterns - where they came from in interiors?

The origins of geometry in interiors - in the decorative version we think of today, admiring patterned wallpaper and geometric lamps or carpets - can be traced back to the development of cubism in painting and art, and the entry into the salons of the extremely rich and decorative art deco style. Both of these trends developed in the early 20th century, and while cubism aimed at geometrically simplifying the elements of the depicted world, the art deco style sought to create interiors that were luxurious, unique and elegant. Since then, the fashion for squares, rhomboids, triangles and semicircles has forever taken over the interiors of houses, apartments, townhouses and apartments and, in a more or less visible way, is present in them to this day.

In which styles geometric lamps and solids look best?

If you are wondering whether the introduction of geometry will be a good way to spice up your interior, keep in mind that it is a fairly universal motif, and dosed in moderation and appropriately ogre color, it will work in any interior, regardless of its style. However, there are, of course, styles that are particularly fond of geometric shapes and patterns, albeit in different variations and intensities. They are:

  • art deco style - is undoubtedly the most geometrized interior style, which loves not only geometric solids of furniture or other furnishings, but also absolute symmetry and all kinds of geometric patterns on fabrics, wallpaper, walls, floors upholstery and accessories. These patterns are based on the shapes of squares, triangles, rhombuses, semicircles, etc., which are arranged in a repeating pattern. It is good if the chosen dominant shape appears in several places in the decor, as this allows you to create a coherent composition, despite the apparent wealth of decorations.
  • scandinavian style - geometric lamps and patterns, also very often appear in Scandinavian-style interiors. Here, however - in contrast to the art deco style, these accessories are very delicate and are only complementary, not the main base of the decor. Therefore, geometry in Scandinavian style is primarily decorative pillows in rhombuses in subtle colors, a blanket in stripes or a rug in a geometric pattern. Also typical of this style - characterized by lightness - are openwork lamps with wire shades, lightweight steel furniture with rectangular shapes, and accessories such as photo frames or wall decorations made of black wire and based on geometric shapes.
  • minimalist style - Minimalism loves geometric, simple shapes and solids. Particularly their smooth surfaces, definite lines and sharp edges, and although this style does not like patterns and unnecessary decoration, it cannot do without cuboid or cubic solids and spheres, which reflect the idea of minimalism, which says to convey as much content as possible with the most economical forms. So if you are decorating your home in a minimalist style, keep in mind square auxiliary tables, rectangular coffee tables, spherical lamps or rectangular ceiling spotlights.

Geometric lamps - or what kind of lamps?

Geometry in lighting can manifest itself in many ways. Depending on what style your interior is decorated in and what effect you want to achieve, you can opt for:

  • Ball lamps - lamps with spherical shades, a shape that many designers and architects, as well as mathematicians, see as the ideal shape. On the one hand, it's a fairly obvious choice when it comes to geometry in the interior, and on the other hand, it's a very versatile and timeless type of lighting that will work well in both classic and modern interiors. It all depends on the style in which the lamp is finished. Spherical lamps with a milky shade and gold finish will work well in French chic and classic style interiors. Transparent ball lamps with a visible bulb with a decorative filament will decorate industrial interiors, while white iridescent lampshades with a silver cover will look very attractive in modern interiors. Alur collection of spherical pendant lamps offers many versions and styles of this geometric classic!
  • Round or square ceiling and wall plafonds - low plafonds and ceiling lamps based on the shape of a circle or square are a great way to subtly introduce geometry into modern or classic style interiors. Round plafonds and pendant lamps (like these from the Space collection or Vero) blend well with both ascetic interiors in a minimalist style, as well as with elegant arrangements in the style of modern classics and interiors in which art deco elements are present.
  • Lamps with lampshades in geometric patterns - a rather obvious, but very strong and setting the tone for the entire interior, are lamps with lampshades in geometric patterns. Slightly more delicate in appearance will be lampshades maintained in one tone, whose texture or the way of combining elements or material creates a geometric pattern.
  • Something else? Geometric forms are not just sphere, cube or cuboid. If you are looking for other shapes, there are also lamps with elliptical shades (check out the Onyx collection of standing and hanging lamps), lamps with shades combining different solids or lamps with fixtures in the form of narrow, cylindrical sleeves.
  • As you can see, there are many ways to bring geometry into interiors, and geometric lamps will certainly be the perfect crowning touch to an arrangement that is not afraid of definite cubist shapes. If you are looking for something softer, read our article about lamps that aren't afraid of the glitter of gold. be lamps with spherical shades.
